Marc Anthony announces partnership with Miami Dolphins at a press conference in NYC

What has Marc Anthony aka Mr. Jennifer Lopez not accomplished?

- Sold millions of albums? Check!
- Starred in featured films and television specials? Check!
- Married one (well make that two) of the most famous women in the world? Check!
- Became a father to two beautiful children? Check!

So besides not owning his own clothing line or perfume fragrance, Marc Anthony has pretty much done it all. However, he can now add Sport Owner to his repertoire.

On Tuesday, July 21st, The Miami Herald announced that Anthony would become part own of the Miami Dolphins football team along side of Stephen Ross, Jimmy Buffett and Gloria and Emilio Estefan. Though Anthony’s share of the team is reported to be somewhat small, Anthony is said to be excited about the new venture as he soon plans to start looking for a permanent residence in Miami.

What exactly does being part owner mean for Anthony? Well, besides getting top-notch seats (which they probably already had), Anthony will get to sing the national anthem at the October 12th Jets-at-Miami Monday night game. Plus, he’ll most likely get dibs to perform at any other game he wants.

Hope his children grow up to be Dolphins fans…

OMG!

How can this be!

Say it ain’t so!

I’m sending an SOS because I am burning up at this moment! Kevin Jonas is engaged!

Jonas Brothers give press concert before performing in Paris

Sorry girls! The oldest Jonas Brother, at only age 22, popped the question to girlfriend Danielle Deleasa, age 21, on July 1, 2009 as confirmed by his rep to Usmagazine.com. When first hearing about this event, my first response was,  at such a young age to get married will this marriage last to this former hairdresser from New Jersey? While many fans are hoping it won’t, Kevin Jonas promised his heart and devotion with a cushion-cut diamond ring he co-designed with Jacob & Co.

Though many are probably surprised by this announcement, it comes at no shock to me after hearing that in 2008 Kevin told Details magazine he was waiting until marriage to have sex, and wearing a promise ring from Tiffany’s in the meantime. So after hearing that news, is it really shocker that the twenty-two-year-old virgin rock star Jonas brother popped the question? To me, that’s like thinking about the Iranian elections being rigged. Of course it was bound to happen! Let’s just see how long the marriage lasts. I’ve got three words to this currently happy couple: Nick and Jessica.

“Catching Fire” Is Catching On

What’s with all of the hype around the Twilight saga? Really now? Even though the books had that soap opera flair and dramatic intensity, they were written somewhat poorly, with many grammatical errors and don’t even get me started on what I thought about the movie…

The Hunger Games/Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games/Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

However my faith in YA (Young Adult) book was restored when I read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, author of the well-known top selling kids’ series, Gregor. Unlike Twilight which even though features romance, action, death and drama, The Hunger Games provides readers with an intriguing plot and a heroine that girls and women aren’t embarrassed by. While the book does involve a love subplot, it is certainly not overshadowed by the action and drama that takes place.

On September 1, 2009, Collins’ second book in The Hunger Games trilogy will be released. Catching Fire is already gaining rave reviews among many critics. MSN also recently featured the sequel as one of the top book to read this year.

The popular series has also received attention from the film industry. The first book in the series, The Hunger Games, is slated to be released in theaters some time in 2011. There is still not work yet on who will be starring in the film, but fans of the series are already counting the days until the movie’s release.

Digital Switch? What’s That?

According to The Associated Press on June 13, 2009, “Nearly 800,000 calls were received by a federal hot line this week from people confused about the nationwide move on Friday to drop analog TV signals and broadcast only in digital.” All I have to say is, “Come on now! Are you kidding?”

For almost the past twelve months now the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has been serving commercial after commercial, warning people about the switch to digital. New York City alone had prompted many features, reports and publicly televised commercials informing people about change to come June 12, 2009.

However, thousands and thousands of people are still not prepared. This even comes after the three to four month delay from when the analogue to digital switch was supposed to take affect. So why are people still not ready? Why will thousands of customers not be able to view any channels? One word comes to mind, laziness.

After reading many articles and watching many stories about how thousands of people do not have signals on June 12th, I say, “Too bad!” If you have television, watch the news or keep up with the day to day going ons in the United States, then there is no excuse not to have been ready. That being said, I guarantee come June 19th, more than half of those without signals will have got off their butts, gone to the closest media outlet and finally have broken down and bought a digital television converter.

Watch Out Middle East?

18th Annual MTV Movie Awards - Arrivals

Warning to the Muslim community and all Middle Eastern teenage girls…Paris Hilton is coming! According to Reuters, the party hopping heiress will be filming the second season of her MTV reality show, Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, in Dubai. Fortunately and respectively, due to country it’s being filmed in, the reality show will feature less alcohol, less partying and more clothing.

For seventeen days the normally scantily clad clothed wearing Hilton, will be filming the upcoming second season in the Middle East. Ish co-founder Michael Hirschorn responded by saying “We’re very aware we are not making the same show we would make in Los Angeles.” Thank goodness! Hirschorn goes on to say, “I was excited about the sheer, ‘Oh my God, what’s going to happen’ factor.” Let’s all hope this poor girl who is chosen isn’t completely frighten by Miss Hilton. Remember, not all Americans are that vain and egotistical.

Hannah Montana To Return

Hannah Montana: The Movie Madrid Premiere

All you tweeny-boppers (and mothers) can rest easy because Miley Cyrus has signed on for another season of Hannah Montana! According to Entertainment Weekly, Miley’s ego hasn’t caught up with her yet as she has decided to film a forth season of hit Disney channel show. Miss Cyrus recently won an MTV Move Award last week for the Hannah Montana The Movie song “The Climb.” However until Miss Cyrus or her alter persona, Hannah Montana, snatch up an Oscar or even Emmy nomination, I’d suggest she stay right where she is and make her original fans happy with more shows of what they want to see.

On a down note, Disney has also renewed Demi Lovato’s series, Sonny With A Chance. Thankfully Wizards of Waverly Place can salvage the audience with better and more entertaining comedic performances and smarter acting.

Brooke Shields: TMI!

There are a few things about celebrities I really don’t care to hear about…

1.) What they eat. No matter if they eat a five-pound steak or a carrot stick, they’re still going to be thin and beautiful because they can afford to work out more than the average person.

2.) Who made the jewelry that celebrities wear. From Harry Winston to Fred Leighton, these pieces cost up to thousands of dollars! “That’s great that you’re wearing a 1.2 million dollar ring, but would you normally leave your house donning it?” Didn’t think so.

3.) The age they lost their virginity…Brooke Shields I am talking about you!

The Metropolitan Operas 125th Anniversary GalaIn the latest issue of Health, Shields tells the magazine that she didn’t lose her virginity until she was 22 years of age. Okay great…and I need to know because? She then goes on to tell the magazine that she wishes she had lost it sooner by saying “I had the public and all this pressure. I wish I had just gotten it over with in the beginning when it was sort of OK.” Just gotten it over with? Wow! Why doesn’t Ms. Shields really tell us what she really thinks about what is supposedly a ‘special occasion.’

The former model and now turned actress states, “I think I would have been much more in touch with myself,” acknowledging her lack of self confidence and issues towards her body appearance.

Health magazine’s article should really have taught parents an invaluable lesson: Do not listen or take advice from Brooke Shields.

Inside Idol: Interview with Jared Cotter

Jared Cotter

Jared Cotter

You know the intro music, you know the host, you know the judges and now you know the winner of season 8, Chris Allen! But do you know the former American Idol top 24 finalist, Jared Cotter? I recently got the chance to ask this season six contestant a few questions last week, before the American Idol finale, on what he’s been up to since grueling days of Idol, his take on this season’s winner, life behind the American Idol cameras and his future plans and goals.

Since your American Idol experience ended, what have you been doing?
Immediately after American Idol, I was asked to join the Fuse Network as a host for some of their television shows. I’ve interviewed everyone from Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher to Queen Latifah and Bow Wow. Clips from these interviews and others can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWAzuQhfbUU. I’m always working on my first love, music, my own project as well as writing for other artists. Most recently I’ve been writing for Jay Sean, a UK pop star, who’s first US release is coming out on Cash Money/Universal. I’m really excited about it! Lil Wayne is on the first single that I co-wrote called “Down”. We just shot the video in London and Miami. It’s hot! I’m also starting to record for my album as well…. Oh! And I was Cosmopolitan Magazine’s 2009 NJ Bachelor of The Year, that was fun!

How did your time on American Idol help you be where you are at today?
American Idol gives singers amazing exposure. It’s such a hugely successful show and millions of people got to see me perform. I’ve gotten so many offers after being on that show, for example Fox TV’s Good Day NY has me on weekly as their Idol Chatter correspondent to talk about the current season of Idol. I’m very grateful.

What was one important thing you learned about yourself during your time competing?
I learned that I can get really nervous! (Haha) But I also learned how to take criticism better and channel my nervousness into positive energy. I had to learn fast, you know how Simon dishes it out!

If you could do it all over again, what is the one thing you’d do differently?
I honestly don’t think I’d do anything differently because I like where I am now in my career and I’m really excited about the next chapter. But if I HAD to pick one thing then I probably wouldn’t have performed Stevie Wonder‘s “If You Really Love Me”. (Haha) His shoes are way too big to fill. I would have done something a little more current.

What are your plans for the future, either immediate or long term?
I’m always working hard and setting goals for myself to continue developing my craft. I just want to keep getting better and be ready as new opportunities present themselves. Great things keep coming!

Were you surprised when Kris Allen was announced the new American Idol?
Yes, I really thought Adam was going to win, the public loves him. But I was rooting for Kris all the way! He’s a real artist and musician and I think he will do really well on the charts. Adam has a great voice but to me he is better suited for Broadway or Vegas. Regardless of who won and who didn’t, I think they will both be very successful.

As viewers, we only get to really see the performances on stage, but what goes on when the camera are off?
It’s honestly not that glamorous! There is a lot of pressure that you feel and there are a lot of rehearsals and tons of preparation. There are also a lot of interviews that go on constantly. Blake Lewis is a good friend of mine and when he was at this stage just two seasons ago he told me it was very hard to have alone time.

What advice do you have for people who want to try out for American Idol or want to go into the music/entertainment industry?
I would say that if you want to try out for AI then do it! What do you have to lose? If you want to be in the music industry just know that there are a lot of low points and it’s the ones that persevere through those low points that make it. Never give up!

Jared Cotter

Jared Cotter

After asking him questions about American Idol, his career and advice he’d give to others, I wanted to ask him some questions that he probably hadn’t answered a million times. After all, what says “Now I really know that person” like a time traveling Delorean question?

If you could have dinner with anyone – dead or alive – who would it be and why?
I don’t think it would be anyone famous. I’d want to just see and talk with my Grandfather again. I hope that he is proud of what I’ve done and what I am doing. I’d ask him questions that I wish I would have asked before he passed away.

Your undercover superhero identity would be….
I think a singer/songwriter/TV personality is a great superhero cover. Shhh… Don’t tell anybody.

If you had access to a time-traveling Delorean, what year would you go to and where would you go?
I’d go back in time and bet on some races like they did in Back to the Future III! I’d make sure I’d bring the winners book with me! And get the winning lottery numbers. lol

What are your top 3 favorite songs on your iPod at the moment?
Jay Sean featuring Lil Wayne– Down
The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved
Q-Tip – Dance On Glass

If you could record a song with any living musician, who would it be?
Stevie Wonder

Jared Cotter has shown that he has used his experience on American Idol not only kick off his career, but more importantly he’s used it as an educational tool, learning from the professional critiques, discovering his strengths and weakness and realizing the hardships of the industry.

Jared proves that making the most out of this remarkable opportunity and seizing the exposure that comes along with the American Idol experience has been an invaluable to both his career and future.

The Cinema Society Hosts A Screening Of Easy Virtue - Inside ArrivalsI bet boyfriend Justin Timberlake is serenading this to girlfriend, Jessica Biel, after her most recent interview with Allure magazine. So what exactly did Ms. Biel tell the magazine about being one of Hollywood’s most beautiful people? “It really is a problem, I have to be blunt.”

Huh? You’ve got to be kidding me! Well, apparently she’s not. She goes on to say that she doesn’t just want to be thought of for action movies, telling the magazine she’d love to do a romantic comedy or drama such as her fellow actresses Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman. “I just want an opportunity. If you don’t like the audition, then don’t hire me. But if you don’t want to see me, that’s hurtful.” Well honey, it’s probably not going to be your gorgeous looks that don’t get you the part.

Biel also talks about her serious relationship with Timberlake, her move to New York City and if in fact she’ll be walking down the aisle in a white gown anytime soon; to which she replied “I have no idea if I want to get married,” Biel said. “I have a lot to do, career-wise.”

Here’s to hoping your stunningly-gorgeous-looks-that-anyone-would-die-to-have don’t hinder you.

2 Dudes and a Dream Film Premiere - Arrivals

What ever will MTV’s The Hills be without Lauren Conrad and Whitney Jay? Not to worry all you Hills’ fans because new season is bringing back old time favorite such the wide eyed pony-tailed, Audrina Patridge, the ever oh so annoying newly weds, Heidi and Spencer, Spencer’s like totally bratty sister, Stephanie and possibly the most “normal” one in the group, Lauren’s best friend, Lo. But hold the presses; MTV has announced a new addition to the hot/cold gang! Former Laguna Beach alum, Kristin Cavallari will be joining all the petty fights, the grudging rumors and the swanky Hollywood hot spot parties.

Cavallari, who was once spotlight from her days on Laguna Beach, tried to make her way to the top of Hollywood, but unfortunately for her and fortunately for us, Hollywood realized that just because you can gain a fan following from a reality television show, doesn’t mean you can necessarily act.

After small time one off roles on such shows as Veronica Mars, Cane, and CSI: NY, Cavallari looks to regain an additional fifteen minutes of fame on season six of The Hills. Good luck to her! She’ll definitely need it while dealing with her other cast mates.
