Lounging in her printed 70s caftan, adorned with gold costume jewelry (today it was her calling), and her  dancing shoes, Valeria Likhova sits on a supple leather couch, as she reminisces about her wonderfully vintage lifestyle, and multicultural upbringing.

She resides with the love of her life, Gerard Maione, co-founder of the fabulously popular NYC vintage store, What Goes Around Comes Around.

Every inch of the Tribeca apartment is visually stimulating, tingling each and every one of the senses. One cannot help but examine the luxurious art deco and Amsterdam school prints, heavy-duty woods, and soft, worn in leathers. A hodge-podge of Rock N’ Roll glamour; a luxurious, exaggerated lodge for gypsies. Paintings and photographs decorate the walls. A delicious world full of ghosts of the past; the very crème de la crème of generation upon generation of creativity.

Ms. Likhova created The Passenger, a large-format pictorial newspaper, focused on emerging musical talent, and showcasing seriously spectacular 70s inspired fashion. The newspaper mostly features up-and-coming musicians, artists, and photographers.

Likhova came to New York at a very young age from Moscow, Russia. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in advertising and marketing communications, she worked and studied in Paris and Berlin, eventually working for Italian Vogue as an assistant fashion editor, and also doing some styling on the side. Eager to disengage from the fashion “battlefield,” Likhova yearned for a project that was her own.

Thus, The Passenger was born.

Taking on the role of creative director and publisher of the newspaper, Likhova gives The Passenger a very authentic, 70s vibe. Emulating her and Maione’s collection of vintage paper Rolling Stone magazines, Likhova has stayed true to the authenticity of that same aesthetic.

Inspired by her boyfriend’s Rock N’ Roll style, Likhova really wanted The Passenger to exude the classic themes of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

“[Garard] has the most amazing style, and Rock N’ Roll personality that we both have, and I want to share that with other people,” Ms. Likhova said. “We are really inspired by late 60s, early 70s and you can see that through our environment, and you can see that through my work.”

The beauty of The Passenger lies in its timelessness. Anyone from a sophisticated Rock N’ Roller, to a rock star wannabee, and even a 75-year-old seeker of nostalgia, can lose his/herself in the whimsical pages of this visually stimulating newspaper.

Fashion also plays a huge role in Likhova’s lifestyle as well. Focusing more on vintage fashion and not so much on contemporary styles, she and Maione admire Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen; but the truly remarkable items in their closets come from the wonderful years of the past.

“Vintage is a really big presence in my life… it is nice to wear a garment that no body else has or that you have never seen before; it is a piece of history.”

Her favorite garments in the entire world? Caftans; which should be worn by men, women, and children alike.

Likhova’s motto when it comes to dressing? “What would Jimi Hendrix wear?”

She truly emphasizes the idea of taking on a lifestyle, one that has its roots from the past.

“You feel like you are wearing something that nobody else has. I can look at a photograph from a certain time period, and I can make that world come to life through vintage clothing, ” Likhova says, as she holds up a 1920s beaded dress.

It is a lifetime lifestyle in the making.

In describing her inspiration, Likhova explains that it is people, not so much the clothes that make her tick.

“People in fashion inspire me the most. There are imaginations out there, that your mind can not even come close to constructing together.”

Likhova’s accomplishments in the publishing world are certainly ones for celebration. With her newspaper in full swing, Likhova looks forward to the future. She is currently working on a photography book that will showcase many collaborations with photographers that have made her visions come to life. She is also set on creating a brand focused around her newspaper, called The Passenger Collection, which will encapsulate a whole stew of things, such as shirts, sunglasses, shoes, bottle openers, and other travel accessories. She also hopes to set up individual Passenger shops that resemble train cars all over the world.

In five years, Likhova hopes to continue to expand her brand, traveling back and forth between New York and Los Angeles, whilst maintaining a mental tranquility.

“I would like to have my empire going strong, and be in a peaceful, happy place in the relationship that I’m in now.”

Keep an eye out for this it girl, as she continues to make a splash on to the fashion/music scene in the years to come.

Barneys New York will be donating 10% of its sales to the  National September 11 Memorial & Museum, helping mark the tenth anniversary of one of the nation’s most tragic events.

This year, the party is even bigger and better than before, especially when consumers all over the world can participate from their computers at home at select online retailers.

Sher in SoHo

Sher here is a Fashion Institute student and her eye for style definitely shows. She funks-up this outfit by tying up her jean Urban Outfitters top. However, the outfit stays classy by placing the skirt above her hips, making the outfit appropriate for both work and play. The skirt is compliments of her sister, and the brand unknown.

Paula in Midtown

Normally a woman’s bra showing through her shirt is considered a fashion faux paux. But here, it’s precisely that pop of pink color peaking through her top that makes this outfit interesting. The sheer top is offset by her classic Apiece Apart skirt. The skirt hits just above the ankles and has pleating throughout. Paula manages to strike the perfect balance between cheeky and modest with this outfit. For Paula, however, it’s all about the nude Marc by Marc Jacobs bag she totes around- her go to bag for the summer season.

“Nude is perfect, it just goes with everything.” Says Paula.

But Paula’s number one rule when it comes to shopping: no matter how much you may like a piece of clothing on the rack, only buy things that fit.

After the success of its first collaboration in the spring, the fashion house Rodarte has teamed up with Opening Ceremony yet again, for its second collection for Fall 2011.  Kate and Laura Mulleavy were inspired by Scandinavia, with pieces ranging from Nordic themed prints, and tiered fabrics, to cable-knits and pinafore-inspired dresses. Patterned harem pants, and long haired winter coats, are all part of this whimsical collection. Opening Ceremony has done very successful collaborations with entities such as Chloe Sevigny and Pamela Love, and also sells popular brands such as Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane, and Jeremy Scott.

Samantha in SoHo

hand, looking like a native New Yorker even though she’s thousands of miles from home.

Although her bags are filled with American brands, Samantha is dressed head to toe in Australian clothing. Her skirt, which is completely sheer except for the attached black mini skirt underneath, is made by Sportsgirl. Australian designer Sass & Bide makes her grey, perfectly slouchy t-shirt.

For those of you who are bummed because you think Samantha’s Australian look is completely out of reach, think again! Her necklaces are Pamela Love, the New York City based jewelry designer.

Unfortunately, to complete the rest of this look you’ll have to go to Australia-but honestly, I can’t think of a better excuse to go.

New York-based and Brazilian-born swim and resort-wear designer A.Z Araujo presented his 2012 collection resort collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami, on July 18. The star studded runway featured celebrities  Adrienne Bailon,  member of “The Cheetah Girls,” “The Real Housewives of Miami” cast mate Adriana De Moura and “Marina” telenovela actress Aylin Mujica.

The edgy and luxurious designs, embellished with Swarovski crystals included one piece bathing suits, with unexpected, sexy cut-outs, and snuggly-fit men’s’ swimwear.

“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to present during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim and share my vision of life and its amazing beauty with others through my designs,” said Araujo in a press release. “I drew inspiration for this collection from all aspects of life. I was inspired by memories of my time in Brazil with my family, the land, the sun, and the sea; by the amazing fashion and grandness of New York City; by movies; by architecture; by all that passes me everyday. From these shapes of life and images, I create and design.”

The Brazilian-born actor turned fashion designer founded his design house in 2008. He became a sensation last year with his luxurious swimwear, with designs worn by famous entities such as, Miss Universe, Wendy Raquel Robison, Natalia Castro and Cynthia Bailey.

M Clifford and Joanna Maxham Handbags

ORA Showroom in NYC is a heaven for the handbag and jewelry obsessed. Located in heart of the Fashion District, this new showroom features the latest in trendy accessories.

Looking around the showroom it is clear that ORA definitely has an eye for the beautiful and interesting. Because of this, ORA showroom has become a hub for buyers and stylists to come to pull looks for photoshoots or buy for various stores. However, beyond representing each of its seven designers, ORA is also very much involved in the creative process of developing the designers’ lines.

“The day to day here is creative. We see everything from start to finish. It allows us to create relevant products.” Said Jodi Lin Wiener, the showroom’s PR Director.

ORA’s Creative Director, Nancy Forman oversees the production of many of the accessories in the showroom. She often advises her designers on everything from the colors to the hardware and material used in their products. With that, ORA is a one stop shop for designers and buyer alike.

Here’s a closer look at some of the brands:

• PONO: With chunky bangles and chain-link necklaces, this line is described by Wiener as a high-end Italian Resin jewelry collection.  She also revealed that it is regularly pulled by such influential fashion magazines as Vogue, Elle, Lucky and many others.

• Melvin Jewelry: Martha Clifford, a native Northern Carolina designer, also known for her M Clifford handbag line creates a unique jewelry group that includes both decommissioned bullets and animal shapes such as lions, rams and octopi.

• Paola Dangond: Besides being a personal friend and designer favorite of Modern Family’s Sofia Vergera, this Colombian designer’s use of crocodile skins and interesting clasps in her clutches and handbags sets her apart from the rest.

• Antoinette Lee: These handbags have a fun and funky twist with some of her smaller leather goods bearing messages printed across them such as, “It was all worth it,” and “Love conquers all.”

Rachel has the working girl outfit down to the tee…literally. Her black Splendid T-shirt is simple and stylish. Its versatility and ruching allows it to easily go from work to after work. With the sun’s rays warming up our streets, winter homebodies step out into the coveted sunshine. The structured, menswear-inspired trends of the winter months disappear amongst fashionistas. As the temperatures rise, loose fitting tops become adorned with Middle-Eastern inspired necklaces, with stacks of cuff upon cuff weighing down the arm. The most essential staples for any fall wardrobe can be comfortably worn in the summer months, holding you over as you transition into fall. The best part about all of these pieces is that they are neutral staples, which can be mixed and matched, worn together or separate, and all year round.

Leather Skirts

During the warmer months, leather pants become full-length leg warmers; and while this heat blanket might give your gams a bit of a slim down, taking them off in the evening, whatever your reason may be, creates an uncomfortable tug-of-war between you and the sticky pants you regretted wearing all day long. A better alternative is a leather skirt in black or beige. It will give your legs a breather, and it’s a more reasonable way not to give up your love of leather, once the temperatures reach well into the 90s. You can comfortably wear this piece when temperatures get cooler, pairing it with stockings and a sweater, or boots and a light trench.

White Shoes

When we think of a summer shoe, we usually go nude, or maybe even seek out some brightly colored hues, to rid ourselves of our winter blues grays. We all know how tacky a white shoe can be, and frankly, most of us steer clear of this territory for that specific reason. Designers however, have truly given us creamier options that can brighten up any outfit, without looking like you accidently grabbed your nurse Halloween costume pumps from last night’s party. Once we hit September, white shoes can still be worn with pants or stockings. Just because it is cooler outside, does not mean one has to rid oneself of fun and funky shoes.

Just because other people want bare it all, using the warm temperatures as an excuse to whip out those short-shorts, YOU my career-oriented lady should not. Sleeves of blouses can be rolled up, and if worn in a light color, you will not spend the day feeling like you’re in a sauna. You will look professional and put together, and during the day, you may choose to pair your blouse with some high-waisted cutoffs, and you won’t be bearing too much skin. Once the fall hits, it will be a staple for any wardrobe, especially when paired with a great pair of pants.

One would assume this grandma shape would seem so very un-sexy, however, breezy and light maxi skirts are great with heels, flats, and sandals, and can be worn out for a night on the town, or a day in the tropics. This trend will continue to be worn in the fall with heavier jackets and boots.
