Digital Switch? What’s That?

According to The Associated Press on June 13, 2009, “Nearly 800,000 calls were received by a federal hot line this week from people confused about the nationwide move on Friday to drop analog TV signals and broadcast only in digital.” All I have to say is, “Come on now! Are you kidding?”

For almost the past twelve months now the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has been serving commercial after commercial, warning people about the switch to digital. New York City alone had prompted many features, reports and publicly televised commercials informing people about change to come June 12, 2009.

However, thousands and thousands of people are still not prepared. This even comes after the three to four month delay from when the analogue to digital switch was supposed to take affect. So why are people still not ready? Why will thousands of customers not be able to view any channels? One word comes to mind, laziness.

After reading many articles and watching many stories about how thousands of people do not have signals on June 12th, I say, “Too bad!” If you have television, watch the news or keep up with the day to day going ons in the United States, then there is no excuse not to have been ready. That being said, I guarantee come June 19th, more than half of those without signals will have got off their butts, gone to the closest media outlet and finally have broken down and bought a digital television converter.
