Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week + DJ A-Trak

The first day of Fashion Week is like the first day of school. You see the same faces with a few newbies sprinkled within the eclectic crowd. I am covering my fifth season of Fashion Week and I still get butterflies in my stomach when I receive my media credentials. Tonight I will get to see the much anticipated Venexiana Fall/Winter 2011 Collection. After my brush with couture, I get to cover DJ A-Trak’s set at LAVO.

I have seen A-Trak perform live four times at various NYC venues and I have yet to be disappointed. He exudes energy, enthusiasm and passion from the stage. A-Trak (Alain Macklovitch) is what I like to call a Y.T.H. (young-talented-hip) DJ in the music industry.
Y: He won the 1997 DMC World Championships when he was only 15!
T: His turntable skills caught the eye of Kanye West resulting in A-Trak accepting the offer of being Mr. West’s tour DJ in 2004.
H: A-Trak co-founded Fool’s Gold Records in 2007. In addition, he has joined forces with Armand Van Helden to form the DJ dynamic duo, Duck Sauce. “Barbra Streisand” is nominated for two awards in this year’s International Dance Music Awards.

The set kicks off at 10 PM at LAVO. I’m already twirling around on the dance floor in my head while humming to “Barbra Streisand.”
