Paul Newman Dies at 83

Legendary actor, Paul Newman, passed away on Friday at the age of 83.

Paul, who had been battling with cancer, died at his farmhouse near Westport, Connecticut, surrounded by family members and friends.

In a business where public scandal and bad-boy behavior are the rule rather than the exception, Paul Newman was as much a hero offscreen as on. A blue-eyed matinee idol whose career has successfully spanned five decades, he was also a prominent social activist, a major proponent of actors’ creative rights and a noted philanthropist.

He got his start in theater and on television during the 1950s, and went on to become one of the world’s most enduring and popular film stars, a legend held in awe by his peers. He was nominated for Oscars 10 times, winning one regular award and two honorary ones, and had major roles in more than 50 motion pictures, including “Exodus,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Verdict,” “The Sting” and “Absence of Malice.”
