Sayonara, Russel Brand!
Twitter knew it first. Russell Brand’s wife, singer Katy Perry (@katyperry) tweeted yesterday: “So…my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so. sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place #tokyodreamscrushed.”
So what happens when Japanese authorities keep you in custody? Apparently they let you keep your phone! It’s the 21st century; anything else would certainly violate our human right to tweet. From inside the place he was being held comedian/actor/singer/former bad boy Brand (@rustyrockets) tweeted: “Planning escape from Japanese custody. It’s bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick.” He seemed to be in good spirits as he later tweeted: “Stockholm syndrome kicking in. Just asked my guard out for (vegetarian) sushi. He giggled.”
Brand has been arrested a total of 12 times in his life. Last time for battery charges for allegedly attacking a photographer in 2010. Perry tweeted that her husband was deported for “priors from over 10 years ago” but Japanese authorities have yet to clarify, claiming privacy concerns.
